About
An examination of the female experience of playing comedy improv using a methodology of Action Research and Narrative Inquiry in order to assess the marginality of the female improviser and how this reflects upon the marginality of comedy improvisation as a performance form within the Western theatrical canon. I am basing notions of marginality on a Foucauldian frame of dominant and subjugated knowledges and I am using the Bakhtinian notions of the carnivalesque and folk humour to look at the female embodied experience of training in and performing Keith Johnstone's method of comedic/theatrical improvisation. I am a practicing improviser.
